10 Ways to Use Vinegar in Your Laundry Room

Vinegar is a powerhouse in your laundry room. Vinegar can remove stains, soften water, and boost laundry detergent.

10 Ways to Use Vinegar in Your Laundry Room

  1. Clothes softener Just add 1/2 half cup vinegar to the last rinse cycle of your wash to soften your clothes.
  2. Reduce lint buildup and keep pet hair from clinging to clothes by adding 1/2 cup vinegar to the last rinse cycle.
  3. Reduce static by adding 1/2 cup vinegar to the last rinse cycle.
  4. Delicates When washing delicate items by hand, follow the garment’s care instructions and add 1 or 2 tablespoons of vinegar to the last rinse to help remove soap residue.
  5. Leather Clean leather with a mixture of 1 cup boiled linseed oil and 1 cup vinegar. Carefully apply to any spots with a soft cloth and let dry.
  6. Silk Dip silks (do not soak) in a mixture of 1/2 cup mild detergent, 2 tablespoons vinegar, and 2 quarts cold water. Rinse well, then roll in a heavy towel to soak up excess moisture. Iron while still damp.
  7. Keep colors colorful Brighten dull colors of clothing by soaking article in 1 gallon warm water and 1 cup of vinegar. Then rinse with clean water.
  8. Prevent Yellowing with linen, wool, or silk by adding 1/2 cup vinegar to the rinse water.
  9. Remove set coffee and tea stains by soaking the item in a solution of 1/3 cup vinegar and 2/3 cup water. Then hang outside to dry in the sun.
  10. Remove grass stains by soaking the item in full-strength vinegar for half an hour before washing.
